New Year Party

On Thursday, January 18, a New Year Party was held, hosted by the President of University of Toyama.

This event is planned for international students enrolled at our university, Japanese students, and faculty members to meet each other, present their own culture to deepen mutual understanding, and develop friendships with people they usually do not meet. After the earthquake on the Noto Peninsula on New Year’s Day, we debated whether to hold such a party, University of Toyama did not suffer significant damage, and even postponed it. We concluded that at times like this, it is worthwhile to get together to celebrate our lives and to deepen our friendship, and we decided to hold the party as planned.

Approximately 150 people participated, including international students, President Saito, Vice presidents, faculty members involved with international students, and Japanese students.
The party was started with an opening remarks from President Saito and a toast by Director Ikeda of the Organization for International Education and Exchange. The students from China, Thailand, Malaysia, Africa, Brazil, Pakistan, and Japan then presented their own customs and cultures.
In addition to the presenters, international students dressed in costumes from their home countries, or Japanese yukata and kimonos created a festive atmosphere.
Halal food was provided for cultural backgrounds, and we believe everyone had a good time.
Finally, a commemorative photo was taken with everyone, and the event ended successfully.
